This is an historic fireplace in a 150-year-old home in Goderich, Ontario.

It was originally a coal burning fireplace with a cast iron arch. Our client did not want to take the history away from the house and we completely agreed.

The most difficult part of this project was finding the ideal fireplace – we wanted one that would mimic the castings of the original fireplace.

Historic fireplaces don’t meet the same safety standards or building codes. There would be no way, legally speaking, to bring this fireplace into a safe fire burning piece, so we turned it into a gas fireplace.
